From beginning to end of the recently finalised 2014/15 season, Sean Dyche’s Burnley sadly seemed like dead certs for the drop. It certainly wasn’t through lack of effort on the Clarets’ part – but because the club seemingly lacked a great deal of Premier League quality throughout the whole campaign – relegation sadly became an inevitable outcome for the Turf Moor faithful.
There was one Burnley man who nevertheless managed to capture the wider attention of the Premier League last season though – and that would be the rapidly emerging English striker, Danny Ings. The 22-year-old scored an impressive 11 league goals last campaign, which is definitely no mean feat for a striker plying his trade in one of this year’s clearly weaker sides.
As is usually the case when a young, up and coming talent makes a name for himself in top-flight football, Ings has subsequently been linked to a whole manner of different clubs this summer, including Liverpool, Manchester United and even David Moyes’ surprise La Liga outfit, Real Sociedad.
Tottenham Hotspur however, arguably represent the best step forward for Danny Ings ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, and here is why…
When the Clarets’ no. 10 first burst onto the scene at the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign, the plucky Burnley striker largely arrived with a decent goal-scoring reputation from the Championship – but he was equally a player very few expected to set the Premier League alight. Danny Ings nonetheless won many football fans over this season with his impressive form in the final third.

The Englishman certainly possesses a strong composure in front of goal – a seemingly rare quality for young, home-grown forwards in the modern era. He can link-up more than effectively with his teammates in and around the penalty box, and with such a clinical nature on board for the youngster, Sean Dyche’s side nearly always had an outlet of attack on most given occasions.
The problem for Burnley was that they relied far too heavily upon Danny Ings last season, yet if the former Bournemouth striker had managed to avoid his frustratingly timed injury problems at the start of the campaign, maybe we would still be referencing the Clarets as a Premier League outfit ahead of next season. With Dyche’s side ultimately facing another year in the Championship however, their star striker certainly looks to be on his way out of Turf Moor sooner rather than later.
In Mauricio Pochettino’s current Spurs outfit though, Danny Ings has the chance to resurrect his career in the English top-flight once again. Yes, the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool certainly offer the striker the chance to ply his trade at some of the most high profile clubs in the country next season – but can they guarantee the young Englishman a solid run of first team football throughout 2015/16 – absolutely not!
If the 22-year-old were to take the gamble of moving to either of those clubs this summer, his reputation in the English game would likely drop pretty quickly. Ings will never be considered a first team starter under Louis van Gaal or Brendan Rodgers, yet because such an opportunity might just present itself at White Hart Lane next season, the current Turf Moor favourite would perhaps be unwise to turn down such a promising chance.
Tottenham notoriously failed in the transfer market when they brought the likes of Eric Lamela and Roberto Soldado to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2013. The Spurs hierarchy decided to take the gamble on such players without any Premier League experience back then, and although certain new faces eventually started making an impact for their side in the end, Pochettino is still desperately lacking in the striking department.
As Danny Ings nonetheless represents the ideal strike-partner for Harry Kane next season, Tottenham really should make the current Burnely man a key priority this summer. The combined efforts of both Ings and Kane seem like they would complement one another perfectly – and whilst such an outcome would certainly pay dividends for Spurs next season if they follow through on their reported interest – it would also signal a bright new future for the England national team as well.
Tottenahm Hotspur therefore clearly represent the best step forward for Danny Ings next season. Spurs may be a team somewhat notorious for landing up and coming stars and failing to see them reach their full potential at the club – but in this instance alone, all the signs seem to indicate that this particular transfer would be the perfect move for all parties involved.
