According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are considering a move for Bristol City’s Callum O’Dowda as they mull over meeting Swansea’s valuation of top target Daniel James – could this mean the end of one unfortunate Whites player?
What’s the word?
Well, The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that James heads Marcelo Bielsa’s list of winger targets but that a swoop for O’Dowda could happen if that proves unsuccessful.
The Swans have slapped a price tag in excess of £3m for the exciting 21-year-old but are also considering extending his stay at the Liberty Stadium – his current deal expires in 2020.
Leeds, meanwhile, are keen to bolster a midfield left thin by the departure of Samu Saiz and will show no hesitation in moving for a different player if they cannot agree terms with their Championship rivals for the services of O’Dowda – signing a new wide-man is clearly high on the agenda for Bielsa and co, indicating that the Argentine may have finally run out of patience with Ezgjan Alioski.
Disappointing Alioski
The Macedioan left-midfielder has bagged just four goals in the Championship this season – an output far from sufficient when the Peacocks are trying to win the title – and, with Jack Harrison also an option there, the desperation to bring in James or O’Dowda means the 26-year-old’s time could be up.
Joining in 2017 from Swiss outfit Lugano, the number 10 came to Elland Road having set high standards the season prior – he had chalked up an incredible 16 goals and 14 assists in 34 appearances in the Swiss Super League but has been unable to hit that kind of form in England, or much form at all.
Both James and O’Dowda, meanwhile, are young players impressing for their respective sides and would represent fantastic investment for Leeds, who are looking to cement top flight status in the coming years before their owner abandons the project. Either would be a great signing and an upgrade on the lacklustre Alioski.
