Manchester City have signed the former Arsenal and Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright in a surprise deal.
The move is certainly a bemusing one – the 34-year-old joined League One Preston North End last month as a free agent, only to agree a mutual termination after just three days. Wright, who is from Suffolk, cited homesickness as a reason for leaving the Lilywhites.
Wright said at the time of his departure from Preston: “I’ve only been away from home for a few days and I know already that I cannot live that far away from my family.”
However, on this occasion Wright is expected to leave Ipswich with his family and uproot to Manchester.
The goalkeeper, who has been capped by England on two occasions, is expected to be the third choice at the Etihad Stadium behind current England number one Joe Hart and Costel Pantilimon.
